a trip to artvillage *hyeri*

some graduation studets took us to the art-village hyeri in the north of seoul, nearby the border to north korea. this is an agglomeration of houses, designed by architects, designers or other people who want to experiment with built space and materials. exposed concrete is the dominating material used. in combination with glas, wood or corten-steel many different forms and contexts are built there. it is more an overload mixture than clear and clean design but this is i think the purpose of hyeri - to experiment and evaluate.

here are the pictures of our invitation at the *millenium seoul hilton* as purpose of the austrian national day by the austrian embassy. (few posts before, i wrote a short report of) it was amazing and a culinary highlight ::: *schweinsbratwürtl mit sauerkraut*gulasch*stelzn*schweinsbraten*dunkles brot*hartwürstl*sachertorte*apfelstrudel*marillenknödel*kaiserschmarren*zipfer bier*burgenländer wein*schnaps ::: all what you need! as an addition to that, a korean jodler was singing austrian traditional songs with jodl acts. we really couldn´t belief it - the last clichè would have been a *wiener walzer* at midnight but the party was over at 11 o`clock pm. At this time only the studets were left at the last parts of the buffet. :)

mid - term presentation

on 23rd of october, we had our first big presentation in the design studio. architectural models, a panel and explanations verbally + visually are parts of such a presentation. discussions are not known in the korean system of education because of the konfuzianism hierarchy but we are not korean and so i startet a kind of - the professors were appreciated for.

me as a *native* assistent teacher

some exchange students got the nice oppertunity to take part at an english festival at a korean primary school. we had the role of teaching the *trick or treat* game as *native* assistent teachers. nobody of us really played this game ever or is from a country where its usual - who cares. with a short written introduction what we have to do and the announcement of a honorar (we are all students :)) we tried our best. all of us had a really nice experience and lots of fun!

korean party people

at the first time here, we had the chance to take part at a real korean party. it was the after show party of a rock concert at our campus. we were so glad to hear music like that. furthermore these party people were all in their late twenties, a little bit older than us, and so, at least, more mature than the puberal koreans in our age. to sum up, we had a very nice, interesting and long partynight with good music as well.

AUSTRIAN national day in seoul

for my pleasure we got an invitation from the austrian embassy in south korea to celebrate our national day together at the ballroom of a nobel hotel in seoul (as you can see).
now we have to get an appropriate outfit for this evening. of course seoul is a big city but i don´t think we get somewhere a real traditional austrian dressing. that would be much more fun! never mind, i´m looking foreward to this important event. :)

pictures will follow right here...

sunday afternoon /// at last time for reading...

finally i can do those things which i can´t during last year of intensive
studying. reading, talking to robert without clear reason, surfing the internet, playing with photoshop and illustrator or just sit somewhere, thinking about anything.
all the things, which most of the koreans don´t used to do and what me makes a hippie out of!

short trip to countryside south korea /// sindo, sido, modo - three small islands in the north

the start of the day was longbreathed - we didn´t cought our bus, it stopped not at the bus station and only so short that there was no chance to get it. so we had to wait for the next, which comes in half an hour...maybe!

... the same, only drewn a few kilometers nearer.

we got a nice pension at sido island and the owner kindly took us for a trip around all three islands with his car. he also got with us to his grandparents - they appreciated us with delicious fresh grapes, self grown. it was a very nice visit in a traditional korean ambience.

this are the famous rice plants and how they are growing, the ground is comletely under water

...and this is a picture of the endless fields with rice. you maybe get the idea that rice is an important aliment - for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

us at a wunderful view towards the yellow sea

this bay, we spent the first evening, just sitting in the sand and watching the horizont...

we spent the second day at this beautiful beach. swimming was not possible unfortunately because of the shallow depth water during falling tide. so we decided to relax in the shadows of the trees - marvellous.

on these two pictures you can see the big difference betrween ebb and flood. the first time i've ever seen that changing live. we were all very impressed of.

...what in the world is he thinking about....? maybe life, his girlfriend julia or just this situation....

lots of prawns enjoing the wunderful wether in the mud.

our trip back home was the same disaster as getting there two days before. waiting for some buses we didn't know where they would bring us but who cares. just keep smiling!

especially for julia, now it was so easy to catch them for a photo
