leisure time, affinity, fun, adventure #2 BREST//FRANCE

in the early morning of the 4th of january we, julia and me, said good bye to my mum at the linz - main train station. packed with all our stuff we were ready to depart in direction brest but stop, of course traveling by train is not that easy business. first we had to wait one hour for the train in linz which then surprisingly made up our delay through strasbourg but this didn't matter because the train to paris was also late one hour and in the end we missed the last connection. as a result we had to take the next one and had a nice five hour trip sitting in the cold corridor because our seat reservations were gone. but honestly i kind of like these adventure trips.
after that we arrived in the evening, couple of hours late, in beautiful brest, an important harbour city with a rough climate and full of students, surfers, seamen and navy solders set in the sticks of the bretagne. julia offered me a nice and warm place at her room where i stayed with her for two incredible and exciting weeks with lots of walking tours through the city, which i made to explore brest while julia was teaching, and sight seeing tours to some beautiful places in the bretagne >>

this is BREST::: the sea with thousends of sailing boats and windscreens for the surfers, a big problem with dog-terd, some relics of a huge military fort, harbour with many of these big boats and, of course, us enjoying all of that.

we used julias weekly day-off on wednesday and the weekends for trips out of the city. the first trip took us through beautiful landscape to LE CONQUET::: a small fishermens village on the coast with these typical french stone cottages and colourful fishing boats. i've also seen my first french lighthouse there!

LE MONT SAINT MICHEL & RENNES::: our two-days trip to the capital city of the bretage and the fabulous monastery which is built on a huge rock apart from main land, in the middle of nowhere, just surrounded by tideland.
nowadays it is a lucrative touristic zone around few monks and angry waiters but it's hundred percent worth seeing.
i was faszinated by its gorgeous, complicated architecture and fortunately we also had a brilliant weather.
rennes is, we both agreed, a really nice city for studying and it was also where i ate the best crepe and galette during our trip, even in one of these frame houses.

we used the second wednesday for taking a walk trough MORLAIX::: just a short trip by train from brest there is this big, two storey high viaduct. we've also seen many small and charming town-houses in here.

the last trip we combined with my departure from the horrible parisian airport, charles de gaulle and so we started early with the bus from brest to CARNAC::: where we took a close look at the mysterious phenomenon of more than 3000 menhires organized in many stone rows. from there we headed foreward to rennes where we spent the night before we got to paris on sunday. julia kindly attend me all the way to my departure gate and honestly, without her i would have been merciless lost in paris - thanks my darling!

some additional informations about that all, more photos and especially german descriptions you can get HERE at julias blog!
